Printing Intaglio
I am demonstrating here the creation of a drypoint intaglio,
made by scratching lines directly into the metal plate and later printing this
in a studio.
I am starting to work on the plate "on location".
With a sharp needle I scratch lines into the plate.
I will do the printing in a printmaking studio.
The ink for intaglio is oil-based.
I ink the plate.
I wipe the plate carefully with tarlatan. The ink remains only
in the depressions I scratched into the plate.
The paper has to be humid.
The plate is adjusted on the bed of the press...
...and I print it.
I did this print in 1999 and printed it in the
Druckwerkstatt of the BBK at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin-Kreuzberg.
